CAF World Cup Qualifying Review: Niger thump Somalia
Moussa Maazou and Mahamane Cisse both struck twice as Niger set up a date with Cameroon in the second round of World Cup qualifying.
Niger confirmed their place in the second round of CAF World Cup qualification with a resounding 4-0 victory over Somalia.
Francois Zahoui's men took a two-goal advantage into the second leg thanks to a double from Moussa Maazou - and he replicated that performance on Tuesday.
Following Mahamane Cisse's opener in the 13th minute, Changchun Yatai striker Maazou added the second five minutes later.
The 27-year-old struck once again with 32 minutes played before Cisse capped the result with his second and Niger's fourth in the 68th minute, completing a 6-0 triumph on aggregate and setting up a second-round tie with Cameroon.
Central African Republic looked ready to turn around their 3-0 first-leg deficit against Madagascar by taking the lead inside seven minutes. However, Madagascar quickly recovered to earn a 2-2 draw that pits them against Senegal in the next phase.
William Jebor scored a hat-trick to ensure Liberia's progression to the second round - where they will face African champions Ivory Coast - with a 3-1 victory and 4-2 aggregate success over Guinea-Bissau, while Ghana will play Comoros, who had to rely on away goals to eliminate Lesotho.
Burundi will face Democratic Republic of Congo after a second-half double from Abdoul Razak Fiston sent them into the second round at the expense of Seychelles, while Namibia bounced back from Pa Dibba's early strike to progress beyond Gambia and secure a date with Guinea.
Egypt await Chad after they scored a crucial away goal against Sierra Leone, who were forced to play their home leg in the Nigerian city of Port Harcourt due to the Ebola outbreak, to progress despite a 2-1 loss that saw Constant Madtoingue dismissed in second-half stoppage time.
South Sudan failed to advance in their first World Cup qualifying tie as fell to a 4-0 defeat away at Mauritania, who will face Tunisia in the second round.
Botswana will face Mali as a 3-1 victory comfortably saw them past Eritrea, who took the lead through former Almeria striker Henok Goitom, while Swaziland's clash with Djibouti, who trailed 6-0 from the first leg, was postponed as the latter failed to arrive at the scheduled time.

Jurgen Klopp: Liverpool close to appointing new manager
Liverpool are close to appointing former Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp as their new manager on a three-year contract.
The Reds hope to complete negotiations by Thursday and name the 48-year-old German as Brendan Rodgers' successor by the end of the week.
Rodgers was sacked on Sunday following the 1-1 Premier League draw at Everton.
Klopp has asked to bring former assistants Zeljko Buvac and Peter Krawietz as part of his coaching staff.
Bosnian Buvac, 54, and German Krawietz, 43, were key members of Klopp's backroom team during his time at Dortmund.

          The Importance Of Sport

The importance of sports in the life of a young person is invaluable and goes much further than the basic answer that "it keeps young people busy, because it also instills lessons that are essential in the life more so that of student. Sports play a pivotal role in the makeup of a young athlete, especially in high school years where student are much more mature and mentally developed. Rather it is up to the parents, teachers, sports teams, clubs, and after school programs to help mold, develop, and instill these qualities into the lives of student athletes. I believe in order for this to happen, school sports programs must have a few components in place. The first thing they need is a good core of coaches that understand the great responsibility that is placed upon their shoulders to help shape and prepare these student athletes not only in sports, but in their everyday lives. Yes, I did say coaches, because it is a responsibility that lies on the shoulders of more than one person and it is going to take more than one person to help lead these student athletes to success.

Somali Football Team

Football is the most popular and loved  sport amongst Somalis. The first football teams in Somalia were established in the 1940s. The competitions were basic in structure, and were associated with the anti-colonial movement. The Somali Youth League (SYL), the nation's first political party, had put together a team of local youth to play against the Italian expatriate teams. In 1958, the first commissioner for sport in Somalia was also established. The football squad that the SYL had assembled, which would later change its name to Bondhere, won the first several competitions. However, it was not as successful in its early forays against foreign teams. Important countrywide competitions are the Somalia League and Somalia Cup. The Ocean Stars, the national team, is popularly known as the "giant killers" because of its underdog status, and the upsets it has achieved during games against better funded and established teams at continental tournaments. A multi-ethnic squad, Somalia first participated at the Olympic Games in 1972 and has sent athletes to compete in most Summer Olympic Games since then. The equally diverse Somali beach soccer team also represents the country in international beach soccer competitions. In addition, several international footballers such as Mohammed Ahamed Jama, Liban Abdi, Ayub Daud and Abdisalam Ibrahim play in European Premiere Leagues.

Manchester United are in the market for a new midfielder this summer, says manager Louis van Gaal.

The Old Trafford boss has been criticized for playing striker Wayne Rooney in a deeper position and when asked if his priority was to sign a new midfielder he said: "Of course."
Van Gaal was speaking ahead of Monday's FA Cup fifth-round tie against Preston North End at Deepdale (19:45 GMT).
"I am looking for balance and I need balance in midfield," he added.
"When I play with [Adnan] Januzaj and [Angel] Di Maria in the midfield positions, then you need a certain balance for that kind of creative player.
"So, when you have these creative players, and also [Radamel] Falcao and [Robin] van Persie are creative players, then you have four creative players and you have to look for balance in your team."
Van Gaal says Rooney, 29, who has not scored in nine games, has no problem with playing in midfield but admits his captain will be well aware of public opinion on his role.
"He is happy," said Van Gaal. "Otherwise, he should come to me and say: 'I am not happy', but he never does.

Barcelona recorded their 10th victory in a row by beating Villarreal in the Copa del Rey semi-final first leg.

The hosts dominated the first half but did not lead until the 41st minute when Luis Suarez set up Lionel Messi to sweep home from 16 yards out.
Manu Trigueros levelled soon after the break but Andres Iniesta restored Barca's lead.
Gerard Pique added a header but Neymar had a penalty saved that would have put Luis Enrique's side three goals clear.
The second leg is on Wednesday, 4 March, with Barcelona's city rivals Espanyol and Athletic Bilbao the other teams still in the competition.

Equatorial Guinea seek to continue fairytale run

Hosts Equatorial Guinea bid to continue their fairytale run at the African Nations Cup as they take on Tunisia in Saturday's quarterfinal with a passionate support expected to rally behind them.
Having upset neighbors Gabon in the group phase in their last game in a snatch and grab win, they have hopes of a similar success against a side who have had an impressive qualifying campaign and finished top of their opening round group.
Coach Esteban Becker said, on the eve of the Match victory would be "monstrous" for the small country but they were confident of achieving it.
The match at the Estadio de Bata, which will host next weekend's final, is preceded by a derby between Congo and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The proximity of the two countries, separated by the Congo River, should ensure a spicy edge to the match, heightened by the fact Congo coach Claude Le Roy was in charge of DR Congo at the last finals two years ago.
"I know all their players because I worked with them for a long time but then they know me and my ways too, so I'm not sure there is any advantage," said Le Roy, who took over in Brazzaville just over a year ago.

WHY WE SHOULD SUPPORT SPORTS.
Where else can a young, impressionable youth learn values like discipline, responsibility, self-confidence, sacrifice, and accountability? Rather it is up to the parents, teachers, sports teams, clubs, and after school programs to help mold, develop, and instill these qualities into the lives of young people.. I believe in order for this to happen, school sports programs must have a few components in place. The first thing they need is a good core of coaches that understand the great responsibility that is placed upon their shoulders to help shape and prepare these young people not only in sports, but in their everyday lives. Yes, I did say coaches, because it is a responsibility that lies on the shoulders of more than one person and it is going to take more than one person to help lead this young people to success.

The second component also involves the coaches: It is the ability to capture the admiration and the trust of the people. This is crucial because if you can capture a person's admiration and trust you can motivate them to perform at a higher level not only in sports, but also in their own lives. If you can get the athletes to believe in you and your philosophies you can begin to see significant changes in grades and behavior. It all starts with coaches that have a plan and methodology behind the principles they are teaching. That’s why; there is a great responsibility on the coaches to help young student athletes make a smooth transition into society.

However the most crucial of all is the support that comes from the community, and administrationS. This is very important because student athletes and young people need to know they are appreciated and there is no greater way than for the community, booster club, and commissioners/treasurers to show that appreciation than to get involved in youth athletics. In order to accomplish this it's going to take investment and the most valuable investments are money and time. The more invested, the better the results. I can attest that there is no greater investment than the future of our young student athletes. When these things are in place, I believe student athletes will benefit and the results will be evident not only on the field, but long after they step off of it.Charity begins at home, let’s all support our young people as they try to nurture their talents, becauseparticipation in organized sports offers the chance for youth people to enhance their physical and social skills.
